World IA Day（WIAD）は、世界的なIAコミュニティである World Information Architecture Association （WIAA）が2012年春にスタートしたプロジェクトです。年に一度のこの日に、世界各都市で情報アーキテクチャについてのイベントが同時開催されます。

これからも毎年このWIADを通じて、一方通行な形で何かを教えたり習ったりという場を作るのではなく、スピーカーもオーディエンスもお互いに啓発し合い、IAコミュニティ全体の価値を高めていける機会を創造したいと願っています。

# Tokyo 2026

World IA Day Tokyo 2026 is back!

World IA Day（WIAD）は「情報アーキテクチャ」（IA: Information Architecture）分野の年次イベントです。IAを広めるためのイベントであり、専門家に限らず幅広い方々の参加を歓迎します。

情報アーキテクチャとは「情報を分かりやすくする技術」や「理解のデザイン」に関する専門分野のことです。主にIT・ウェブ分野の専門家によって実践されています。それに留まらず、多くの人が情報を扱う仕事をしている現代においては、意外と身近な分野でもあります。

今年は金曜日に対面イベントを、土曜日に例年通りオンライン配信イベントを開催します。

土曜日のオンライン配信イベントは、東京と福岡の共催イベントです。お申込み先をお間違えなきよう、ご注意ください。

World IA Day (WIAD) is an international event with the theme of “Information Architecture (IA)”. Once a year, events on information architecture are held simultaneously in cities around the world. Following 2024, Tokyo will also host the event in 2025.

## This year's theme

Based on this year's global theme of “Challenges of Change - Adapting Information Architecture for an Evolving World”, we have decided to set the local theme as “Professionalism and Ethics for Continuing to Meet the Challenges of Change”. The rapid application of generative AI is leading to major evolution and change not only in the information society, but in the world itself. The question for us as IA is how to guide the very nature of architecture, and in order to do this, it is essential to confront design ethics and the professionalism that forms its foundation.

In the opening keynote, we will invite Professor Fumika Yamamoto, an expert in ethics and bioethics, to speak about the ethics of low-dose radiation exposure and the ethics of high-level radioactive waste. This thought-provoking lecture, which cannot be easily dealt with using the conventional framework of ethics, will encourage us to consider and discuss the ethical aspects of information architecture methods, particularly in areas where clarity and responsibility are of the utmost importance.

From this consideration, we have gained the concept of the ethical framework, and we hope to promote a meaningful discussion on the role of information architecture in design that goes beyond the fundamental principles of IA, which are connected to the real business environment and are not limited to simply designing for ease of use and understandability, in order to fulfill the role of understanding and accountability.

今年のグローバルテーマである「Challenges of Change—Adapting Information Architecture for an Evolving World（変化への挑戦 - 進化する世界に適応する情報アーキテクチャ）」を踏まえ、ローカルテーマとして「変化に挑戦し続けるためのプロフェッショナリズムと倫理」を掲げることとしました。生成AIの急速な利活用により情報化社会のみならず世界そのものが大きく進化・変化しています。ここで我々IAに問われるのはアーキテクチャの有りようそのものをどう導いていくのかであり、そのためにはデザイン倫理やその基礎となるプロフェッショナリズムとの向き合い方が欠かせません。

オープニングキーノートでは、倫理学・生命倫理の専門家である山本史華教授をお招きし、低線量被曝の倫理、高レベル放射性廃棄物の倫理についてお話いただきます。従来の倫理の枠組みでは対処が容易ではない、この示唆に富む講演は、特に明確性と責任が最も重要視される情報アーキテクチャの手法における倫理的な側面について、私たちに考えさせ、議論させるきっかけとなるでしょう。

提起されたこの考察から倫理学のフレームという概念を得て、科学技術の変革にともなう倫理規範の変革に、IAとしてどのように向き合うのか？　現実のビジネス環境と接続し、単に使いやすさや分かりやすさをデザインするというIAの原理原則的な本質論にとどまらない、理解と説明責任を果たすためのデザインにおける情報アーキテクチャの役割について、有意義な議論を促進することに期待するものです。

# Tokyo 2024

World IA Day (WIAD) is an international event on the theme of Information Architecture (IA). Once a year, WIAD are held simultaneously in cities around the world. Tokyo has not held the event since 2019, but in 2024, the event will be held in Tokyo for the first time in five years. In Japan, the event is also being held in Fukuoka, and both venues will be connected online on the day of the event.

This year's global theme is Context. Context is becoming increasingly important in modern IA. Whether pandemics, wars, or political conflicts, it is dangerous to handle information without context.

In the Japanese design communities, in recent years, IA has been focused on structuralization of information, such as classification, navigation systems, object modeling, and so on. However, the "information" we are dealing with is much more often a state or thing before it is put into words, or something that is impossible or difficult to verbalize. Above all, even the IAs themselves are not able to verbalize all of their actions and design processes. The advent of generative AI has also added to this state of affairs.

Therefore, this year's local theme for Tokyo will be "What Lies Before Words," and we will consider in all directions of "verbalization."

今年のグローバルテーマは「Context」です。現代のIAにおいてコンテクストの重要性はますます高まっています。パンデミックや戦争、政治的対立など、コンテクストなしに情報を取り扱うのは危険な時代であるといえます。

日本のデザイナーコミュニティにおいては近年、IAといえば、分類やナビゲーションシステム、オブジェクトモデリング等の構造（化）に焦点があてられてきました。しかし、私たちが取り扱っている「情報」は、言葉になる前の状態や物事であったり、言語化ができない、あるいは難しいもののほうが、はるかに多いのです。何より、IAたち自身ですら、自分たちの所作やデザインプロセスのすべてを言語化できていないのです。生成AIの登場も、この状態に拍車を掛けているといえるでしょう。

そこで今年の東京のローカルテーマは「言葉の前にあるもの」とし「言語化」の前後左右について考えます。

* Information Architecture Institute（IA Institute）が主催する、IAコミュニティによる全世界同時開催イベントWorld IA Day（WIAD）は今年も東京でも開催されます。
* WIAD TokyoではIAの観点からの新たな課題定義を目指し、ここ数年では、フィルターバブルとIAの責任（ゲスト：NewsPicks/SmartNews, 2016年）、「分類」の再考（ゲスト：三中信宏氏, 2017年）、IAの倫理と哲学（ゲスト：ルチーアーノ・フロリディ氏, 2018年）などのテーマを取り扱ってきました。
* 今年は、IA in IxD（インタラクションデザインにおけるIA）をテーマとして、オブジェクト指向UI設計（OOUI）からUIデザインについて考えます。
* Webやアプリの開発においてUXを考慮したアプローチは一般化してきたといえますが、特にアプリなどのUI構築においては、複雑な情報を操作するようなアプリの設計でもいまだ経験則に従って実践されていることが多いのが現状です。
* 操作（インタラクション）や、UIオブジェクトなどを体系化したパターンライブラリやデザインシステムといったアプローチは活用されていますが、IxDのための情報整理であるオブジェクトモデリングといった手法はまだ一般化しているとはいえません。
* そこで今回のWIAD TOKYOではUIデザインにおけるIAとしてOOUIアプローチを中心に考えてみようと思います。
* メインスピーカーに日本でのUIデザインの第一人者である上野学氏をお招きし、OOUIについて徹底的に議論する一日にしたいと思います

### ■ Information Everywhere, Architects Everywhere

５回目を迎える今年のグローバルテーマは、「Information Everywhere, Architects Everywhere」。もともとWeb情報設計の分野として生まれたIAですが、昨今のビジネスにおけるUXデザインの普及や、情報メディアの多様化にともない、リチャード・ソウル・ワーマンが21世紀の職業としてInformation Architectという概念を提唱した、本来の意味合いに戻ってきています。そういった背景を受けて、このグローバルテーマが設定されました。

これを受けて、日本でのローカルテーマは「いまフィルターバブルを考える、これからのIAの役割とは」と設定しました。

イーライ・パリサー氏によって、「閉じこもるインターネット――グーグル・パーソナライズ・民主主義（原題：The Filter Bubble: What The Internet Is Hiding From You）」によって知られることとなった「フィルターバブル」ですが、現代に生きる一人一人の情報生活において、避けて通れない視点と言えるでしょう。

情報アーキテクチャについて責任を持つ立場である、インフォメーションアーキテクトは、情報設計の専門家として、このフィルターバブルをどうとらえ、どのように取り扱っていけばいいのか。そのとき、インフォメーションアーキテクトはどのような倫理感を持たねばならないのか。

World IA Day Tokyo 2016ではこういった視点について議論を交わしたいと考えています。

Takashi Sakamoto joined Netyear Group at 2002, works on interactive marketing consulting, creative direction of web site developments. He also works as an information architect and has been active in the front of IA community in Japan. He published a book, IA Thinking in 2010. He is a member of IA Institute and Human Centered Design Organization Japan (HCD-Net). Open UM is a project with the goal of standardizing the labeling and navigational hierarchy of local government websites across Japan. Takashi is a director of the project.

著書に『IA100―ユーザーエクスペリエンスデザインのための情報アーキテクチャ設計』、監訳書に『THIS IS SERVICE DESIGN THINKING』など多数。

Dr. Atsushi Hasegawa is Professor of Institute of Innovation. He received his PhD from The University of Tokyo. He has master’s degree in Physics from Tohoku University.

He began his career as an Information Architect in 2000. He founded a design firm Concent in 2002, he has produced UX and service design projects for such as Mitsubishi Electric, Sony, Toyota, and Ricoh.

His themes are: Information Architecture, Service Design in Japan, and Design Transformation. Through practice, research, and education he is cultivating the design.

He is a Vice President of Human Centered Design Organization Japan (HCD-Net), Japan Chapter Representative of Service Design Network (SDN).
